John 13:10-38

Introduction:
Jesus loves us to the end

Background:
Passover feast (John 13:1)
It is a reminder of God's grace and mercy. The passover feast occurred in the Old Testament when God cursed
Egypt with the Plague of the firstborn.

Characters involved:
1. Jesus
2. Judas
3. Simon Peter
4. John

1. Jesus
Discussion (V1-3)
Some say that John 13:! is the turning point of the gospel account. Do you agree? Why or why not?

2. Judas
Discussion
Judas' betrayal is repeated many times in this whole chapter (v2, 11, 18-30 espv18, 21, 26, 27). Judas has a definite role in betraying and leading Jesus to the cross. Yet Jesus still washes his feet. What significant lessons can we learn?

3. Simon Peter
Discussion
Read up the following verses. From these passages, describe the background and give us observations about Peter's character (includes in relation to Jesus)

a. Mt 16:13-28 (Mk 8:27-30, Lk 9:18-27)
b. Mt 17:1-13 (Mk 9:2-8, Lk 9:28-36, 2 Pet 1:16-18)
c. Mt 26:31-46 (Mk 14:27-31, Lk 22:31-34, Jn 13:31-38)
d. Jn 18:15-27 (Mt 26:69-75, Mk 14:66-72, Lk 22:54-62)
e. Jn 21:15-23

4. John
Discussion
The phrase the "disciple who Jesus loved" referring to the disciple John, is first used here in this chapter 13. It is also being repeated in the other passages in John's gospel below.
a. 19: 23-27
b. 20:1-5
c. 21:1-8
d.
21:20-25

Observe and explain what happens in these situations.

How do you love Jesus to the end?
